In 1990, she attended a novice gynastics meet in Brantford where she was born. She was representing the Stratford Opti-Y gym club and she won the overall title in the novice nine-year-old division.
In March of '90 , the Stratford club hosted an invitational meet of 150 gymnasts representing clubs form right across Ontario. Kim took first place on the "Beam" exerises and placed fourth overall for the meet.
