No proof this is the right family, George as William's father may have been mistakenly listed in the first article, see updated court story below which names William, and also a possible reason he later went by "Pete" instead of William, to distance himself from this court case.
1883 De Ruyter New Era News, N.Y. Oct 11, 1883.. "George Everingham of High Bridge has been arrested and held for the action of the Grand Jury on a charge of an attempted outrage on Maria Stoutenger. High Bridge is a hamlet about a mile north of Manlius and has the name of being inhabited by pretty hard citizens."
follow-up research found this, correcting the name to WILLIAM;
1883 The Weekly Recorder, Fayetteville, Onondaga, NY, Nov 22, 1883.. "Trial of William Everingham of High Bridge, indicted for a felonious assault on Maria Stotenger in September last. The trial was concluded Wednesday afternoon when the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. The verdict gives general satisfaction. Any sensible person who reviewed the evidence given at the examination before the justice in the this village must have been convinced that there was grave doubt of the defendant's guilt and he was entitled to the benefit of that doubt as a matter of law. The accused was an object of sympathy in the sight of fair-minded people, not because he was less likely to commit the crime than others, but because advantage was taken of his lack of education and social standing by unscrupulous persons to make him the object of their malice and secure conviction."

1893 same william?, it could be a couple others. Syracuse Journal Daily, October 16, 1893,.. "William Everingham of Onondaga is listed among others who were charged with intoxication and were allowed to go."

1921 Syracuse Journal, Friday, June 3, 1921... William Everingham who has been ill at the home of D. French, has been removed to the County hospital. Mr. French found him early Wednesday morning suffering from a shock. He was badly bruised from falling on the cement floor of the barn. His recovery is not expected. "Pete" as he is known by almost everyone for miles around, is a brother of Mrs. L. Washburn of Fayetteville.
1921 Syracuse Journal, Monday, June 6, 1921... Deaths, "William Everingham, 67 of Fayetteville died Monday morning at the Onondaga County home where he had been an inmate since June 1."
