Maplecrest Invitational

Everingham, Immel maintain top spot

Ron Everingham and Chris Immel captured first place in the Hogan Flight of the rain-shortened Maplecrest Country Club men's golf invitational Saturday. Numerous matches were in progress when suspended due to rain late in the afternoon.

Other flight winners were Brian King and Tony Pechin (Sarazen), Jack Guipe and Rick Guipe (Snead), Fred Ramser and Tom Gosztola (Palmer), Kirby Whitehead and Brad Whitehead (Jones), Kerry Kreiner and Fred Schrock (Nicklaus), Mitch Day and Tom Ernsberger (Hagen), Tom Dalka and Dean Long (Player), Jerry Struble and Francis Shembab (Trevino), Bruce Barker and Dave Norris (Watson).

There were no "skins" awarded Saturday due to the interruption of play. Ralph Lockerbie won the closest to the pin (6-10) on No. 8 . A long drive contest was also held with Tim Torrance first (284 yards), followed by Roy Bergman (269) and Don McCann (256).

In the Saturday morning shootout, Bergman and John Bibbo took top honors in Flight 1 with Sarno and Long second. Jack Guipe and Rick Guipe were first in Flight 2 with King and Pechin second.

In Flight 3, Tim Yoder and Larry Thompson were first, followed by Rick Mehl and Dan Messner. Jerry Snyder and Jeff Snyder finished first in Flight 4 while Kirby Whitehead and Brad Whitehead were second. In Flight 5, Don Gunden and Rick Depauw placed first, followed by John Stith and Clyde Alford.
