This Benjamin doesn't show up in many records but didn't die in the civil war. Did he go by his middle name? Of note, in other census data Everingham is spelled various ways.

1840 US CENSUS East Windsor twp., Mercer county, NJ (Page 59) This is a VERY interesting census record because it is someone with the same name as Benjamin living in the same county that he resided in his later life. At the time of this census Benjamin is only 9 to 10 years old, so it appears that he is not living here.
"Benjamin Evernham; 1 male (20-30), 1 male (70-80), 1 female (5-10), 1 female (70-80)."

Circumstantial Southampton evidence - In 1870 an Margaret Everham died at Southampton, Burlington, NJ... she was born about 1825 (close to the age of Benjamin) and list her parents as Alex & Susan Everham. Could this be Benjamin's parents also? An Elisabeth (Gale) Everham born 1837 in Southampton died in 1867. She had been married to David Everham in Mercer, NJ. Another Ben "Benjamin Franklin Everham" also lived in Southampton, NJ. This Ben was the son of Benjamin S. Everham & Hannah Lee who lived at Southampton most of their lives. A Rachel Everham died at age 23 in 1849 at Southampton, NJ, she was married so Everham was likely not her maiden name. This could have been a sister-in-law of Benjamin (no proof).

1860 US CENSUS South Hampton twp., Burlington, NJ. July 28, 1860 (Page 62).. "Dwelling 438; Henry Lee 69, Ann Lee 59, Hannah Lee 20, Benj. Everham 22."
