fact sources and writings about this individual:

Information here based on the research of Kevin Everingham of Michigan and the research of Scott Ives of MN. Scott identified possible siblings listed here a couple years prior to my acceptance that it is indeed probable as listed above. It is still possible that the siblings listed above are cousins, but all living in the same area (Warwick, Orange, NY) makes it likely they are related at the very least.

Early MORGAN's in southern Orange County NY; (census data transcribed by Kevin)
1790 US CENSUS Warwick, Orange, NY.. "Abraham Smith is listed next to Thomas Morgan." are these relatives of John Morgan & Betsey Smith?

1800 CENSUS of Minisink, Orange, NY "William Morgan",.. (Census of Cheesecocks, Orange NY) "John Morgan & William Morgan, next to John Morgan is Abraham Smith"... (Census of Newburgh, Orange, NY).. "Joseph Morgan & Isaac Morgan". (about a Abraham Smith of Minisink)

1810 CENSUS of Orange County, NY.. "(in Monroe) Wm. Morgan, Isaac Morgan, James Morgan, Abrm Smith... (in Newburgh) Patrick Morgan, Jerimiah Morgan, Robert Morgan,.. (in New Windsor) Selex Morgan."

1820 US CENSUS Orange County, NY.. "(in Monroe) Thomas Morgan, Daniel Morgan, James Morgan, Isaac Morgan,.. (in Newburgh) Ambrose Morgan, Patrick Morgan, Robert Morgan... (in Minisink) Abraham Smith, also two Abraham Smiths listed in Montgomery, Orange, NY"

1830 US CENSUS Orange County, NY.. "(in Warwick) Isaac Morgan,.. (in Newburgh) Patrick Morgan, Robert Morgan... (in Minnisink) Abraham Smith"

In the 1850 US CENSUS of Warwick, Orange County, New York, the following show up; (mouse over the family# below to see Census details)

Also, there was a John Morgan 57, Abagail Morgan 57 and Ann Parvin 18 living in Newburgh, Orange County, New York in 1850. (related?)

Kevin's research in Clinton Co., MI, 2009, uncovered this death certificate:
Clinton County Michigan Death Record - Book 3, #8006 - John Morgan
widower, retired farmer, born in New York, died at DeWitt, Clinton, MI, 84 years, 7 months old, died on Oct 27, 1899. Son of John Morgan of NY and Betsey Smith of Vermont. Recorded Nov 4, 1899.
family records also indicate that some of this John Morgan's children were born in Warwick, NY

logical research notes from Scott Ives; It is not known that those listed here as children of John and Betsey were their children - other than John (Jr). Daniel and Abram are listed as children because they are listed in the 1850 census of Warwick, Orange NY very close to John Jr (Daniel is household #907, John #913 and Abram #917), and all are miners, or "coliers" (coal miners). Henry and James are listed as sons because they also lived in Warwick in 1850, households 338 & 339, and moved to Clinton Co MI between 1856 and 1860 - as did John Jr, though Henry and James lived at DeWitt (only a few miles from where John lived in Victor Twp). Some researchers believe Henry and James to be sons of a Joseph Morgan; some believe them, and Daniel as well, to be sons of a Daniel Morgan.
