1861 Although his obituary states that he identified with the 23rd Infantry, .. The 14th Michigan Infantry Roster for Company F, lists Ferdinand enlisted as "Ferdinand Platt of Westphalia, age 28." This would be an Enlistment in 1861. The Record of service of Michigan volunteers v.14, Adjutant General's dept. Printed by Ihling Bros. & Everhard, Kalamazoo, MI. lists Ferdinand Platt (Veteran) of Westphalia. Enlisted in Co.F fourteenth Infantry as a Corporal Oct 14, 1861 at Westphalia. For a 3 year term at age 28. Mustered Feb 13, 1862. Re-enlisted Jan 4, 1864 at Franklin TN. Mustered out at Louisville, KY, July 18, 1865.
