Henry Springsteen was the oldest county continuous resident, here for 88 years.
Henry Springsteen, 88, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. C. Morton (Nevada) of Cassopolis at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 19, 1925. With his passing, Cass County lost its oldest continuous resident. Mr. Springsteen came to Cass County with his parents when but three months old from New York state and has lived in the county since that time making his home in Wayne Township during the greater part of that period. The aged man, after a vigorious and active life, during which time he became one of the county's best known figures, began to fail in health last August and a steady decline followed, resulting in his death which occured just one month after he celebrated his 88th birthday, at which time he was remembered by scores of his friends.
Wife Critically Ill
Thursday afternoon, shortly before death arrived, Mrs. Springsteen suffered a stroke which was a result of a strain and worry of the past weeks, and her condition is critical. Because of her condition a private funeral was made necessary. There will be a private service at the Morton home in Cassopolis at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon followed by short services at the grave at Riverside Cementery.

Mr. Springsteen was married twice and had four children form the first marriage and five with the seconded, all of whom are living, and six of whom are residents of Cass County. Mr. and Mrs. Springsteen had lived on the same farm in Wayne for 54 years. The deceased is survived by his wife, a brother, Jacob Springsteen of Augusta, Michigan, and a sister Mrs. Lucinda Melcher of Penn Township.
