This is the family that immigrated (moved) from New York to Michigan some time between 1837 & 1840, likely just before Barney was born. This family settled in LeGrange, Cass County, MI.

1840 NOTE: There is a John Springsteel listed in the 1840 US Census of Haverstraw, Rockland county, NY who is very likely this same John. This is the same township and county where his father Henry was born. His father Henry Springsteen had died in Michigan in 1838 which may have given John a reason to move there.
