1836 The Herald Newspaper, New York, NY, Feb 10, 1836.. "Henry W. Bates, No.6 Platt Steet, wholesale dealers in Cloths, Cassimeres and Vestings and other Dry Goods, has lately received a new and handsome assortment of Cloths." it appears that like Elizabeth's father, Henry was also a merchant & cloth dealer. In 1836 there are many newspaper ads for Henry's store.

1836 The Morning Courier and New York Enquirer, Dec 15, 1836.. "Married last evening, by his Honor the Mayor, Mr. Henry W. Bates, to Elizabeth R., daughter of Mr. Joseph D. Everingham, all of this city. "
