known roads called;

EVERINGHAM ROAD / STREET
in New York & Michigan

  • Everingham Road in Nedrow, New York (a suburb of Syracuse) was named after early pioneer of the area Albert Everingham. Albert is known to have lived in Onondaga County, New York since his birth in about 1840. He shows up in census data from 1850 to the early 1900's. In May of 1897 Auburn, New York News and Democrat, printed "For repairs of highways on the Onondaga Indian Reservation, to be expended under the direction of the superintendent of public works, on the roads known as the "Quarry," "Cardiff," "South Hollow," "William Hill," and "Albert Everingham" roads, the sum of two thousand dollars. " Most newspaper articles just list it as Everingham Road but in this 1897 newspaper, it was clearly known that it was named after Albert.

    Just south of Syracuse in Nedrow, New York on the east of the Onondga Creek is Everingham Road. The creek bends around what was once Albert Everingham's nearly 200 acre dairy farm. For more information about Albert's homestead, see this information from a descendant.

  • Everingham Road in Lafayette, New York, is off from U.S. Route 20. This is between Cardiff and South Onondaga and west of the town of Lafayette. Lafayette is south of Nedrow and is very likely named after some relatives of the road near Syracuse. This Everingham Road crosses the very same Onondga Creek that runs through Nedrow and Syracuse.

  • Everingham Highway (or Road) in Chickasaw County, Iowa was likely named after one of Jacob Everingham's sons. Jacob and wife Peggy Dell were born in Canada. He was the son of James Everingham & Catherine Lemon. His sons and at least one grandson were Civil War veterans, all living in Chickasaw County, Iowa. William Everingham is mentioned in a newspaper in reference to a bridge needing to be built. Information about this road comes from The Weekly Nashua Post, Sept 24, 1875 noted that the road case of relocation of part of Everingham road, Utica township, continued until next Oct. meeting. On January 14, 1876 the Nashua Post reported $150 was approved to replace a part of the Shaffer bridge on the Everingham road in Jacksonville township. The Weekly Nashua Post, Iowa, April 14, 1876, "listing activity of the township board it mentions the Smith and Everingham Highways and relocation of a part... it was the vote of the board to vacate part of the Everingham road on the W 1/2 sec 1/4 of Sec 6-96-11." On April 21, 1881 a local paper noted a petition for the appropriation of $50 to build 2 bridges on the Utica and Lawler between Wm. Everingham and James McKenein in Utica township. The New Hampton Tribune, Sept 15, 1896 noted.. Petition of Edward Finnegan and others to release from payment of costs growing out of application to vacate a part of the Evringham highway in Stapleton township, was rejected. The New Hampton Courier Newspaper, on June 11, 1908, stated "In the matter of the vacation of a part of the Everingham highway commencing at a point where said Everingham highway crosses the west line of sec 34, northeast to the east line of the W 1/2 NW 1/4 of said sec 34-97-12." on, November 26, 1908, an article addresses a petition for a highway that would terminate at the Evringham road. This petition was granted. It is likely that this road or highway was eliminated or re-named since it doesn't show up in modern searches.

  • Everingham Street in Mancelona township, Antrim County, Michigan was likely named after the John B. Everingham family. John was a former corporal & civil war veteran from Pennsylvania who moved to Michigan and raised a family. This street referenced in the following newspapers: In the Mancelona Herald, 1911 news about the town of Alba; "H. Jones is building a bungalow south of W.R. Anderson's on Everingham street." The Mancelona Herald, July 1, 1920... "the old store building at the corner of State and Everingham street.". Everingham street is also mentioned in the Herald in October, 1959, but only as a quote from a past newspaper. I do not know if this street still exists.
